The Sunday Times has uncovered something that I think everyone has suspected for a while – that jeans manufacturers and retailers have been telling lies about the real waist sizes of their jeans. Companies such as The Gap, H&M, Zara, French Connection and TopShop are all practising “vanity sizing” and understating the waist sizes of their jeans by up to 6 inches ie. a pair of jeans that were labelled as waist size 30in in some cases actually measured up to 36in. I wondered how come my waist size had managed to stay the same size for the last 10 years.

  1. Hello, my name is Kristen and I work at http://www.truejeans.com. My experience in the denim fashion industry has taught me that sizing discrepancy between brands and manufacturers varies greatly. It comes as no surprise to me that many of the major fashion retailers are also practice vanity sizing. While vanity sizing may make you feel great about yourself, it also makes it extremely difficult to shop between various brands without having to try everything on. True Jeans realizes that finding jeans that fit is a daunting and difficult task, especially because brand sizing is not consistent across the board. At True Jeans, our goal is to eliminate the dressing room for our customers by interactively working with you to find your true fit.
