FastCompany.com has an interesting article about how jeans went from being a workmanlike product that cost $50 to being a premium item that you can pay $300 and above for. Apparently it happened when the denim designers began thinking of jeans in terms of concepts ie. helping shape the perfect rear. They go on to say that it has also helped that the concept of luxury has evolved “to become more about personal pleasure and self-expression” and that luxury goods (such as the jeans above by Paige) are now a “mark of connoisseurship”.
