It’s always interesting to find how designers approach denim from different points of view. Dr. Denim, for example, was started by the Swedish Graah brothers, whose family has a background in clothing and marine fishing. The result? The first pair of Dr. Denims ever made was inspired by and named the Unagi, after the Japanese word for eel. Like the eel, Dr. Denim’s jeans are sleek and simple, with many styles coming in a dark inky hue. There is something highly intellectual about jeans that rescind all embellishment. Every detail refuses to be anything but functional, shunning artificiality. The current lookbook plays up the wit with nerdy hipsters in thick-rimmed glasses and geeky plaids. I imagine the next Weezer or the prodigies at Google could look something like this.
