The media is full of chatter about how we are in a terrible, deep recession, but yet despite challenging economic conditions, new denim brands are emerging and entering the premium jeans market and finding retailers are hungry for new product.

Designer Frank Mechaly founded the 575 Denim brand, however after a three-year battle with Levi Strauss over the brand’s name, he was forced to start a new brand. Rockstar Denim was born in December when the retail market was down. Another brand having success since entering the denim market in April is Daniella Siri’s Recession Denim, which is being carried by more than sixty retail stores, including Bloomingdale’s, with prices of $80 to $100.
