Volcom is a brand that personifies a lifestyle of sun, sports, beach and good looking men and women. By collaborating with Singer/Songwriter Jennifer Herrema, Volcom has also added the rocker chick vibe as well. Together they have produced a limited collection of 300 hand-made jeans and a broader collection of denim.
I have to say that the ads for this collaboration were some of the smartest and best I’ve seen. Placed in magazines like Nylon (their perfect consumer) people like me were immediately drawn to the visuals and the woman behind the jeans. I was thrilled beyond belief that I was able to review one of the 300 “Tight Fit” handmade pairs of patched jeans, which come complete with an oversized foxtail. This is a signature Jennifer Herrema look and it rocks! Made of sturdy stretch denim these jeans are built to last and the fit reflects the skater/sports girl that Volcom are known for. These particular jeans run small I wear a 25″ and the 27″ fit me but as with anything that is made custom, you need to try them on. They ran a bit long on me so I tucked them under a little (maybe an inch or two) but I’m also not that tall (and will continue to put it out there, I hope I continue to grow).
There isn’t much needed when dressing these jeans, I opted for less is more pairing a simple tank top with a Miss Sixty shoe that offset the foxtail. I wasn’t super sure about how or where it was supposed to go and honestly I googled Jennifer to look at how she wore it (understanding this is a signature look for her). I am not as bad ass as she (actually I’m not bad ass at all) but this pairing of a jean that looks and feels like you’ve cared for it, worn it and re-patched it with the luxury of the foxtail is hot! I would wear these out at night, during the day or hanging out with friends. There is no “wrong” with a jean that feels this right. Comfortable, sturdy (a Volcom standard) and fashionable… I couldn’t ask for more!
We were lucky enough to do a Designer Q&A with Jennifer who is friendly, funny and cool in addition to be a Rock Queen. The people at Volcom couldn’t be nicer and us L.A. girls have grown up seeing Volcom at the beach, on the slopes and the streets. Now you can see Volcom by Jennifer Herrema on people like Elizabeth Jagger and Andrew Vanwyngarden of MGMT (one of my favorite bands) and girls from coast to coast.
