When I see the words “Bootcut” on a pair of jeans I tend to think of an unflattering cut through the leg and jeans that are for lack of a better term, shapeless. So when it came to reviewing Hudson’s Baby Bootcut Jeans I was surprised to see this new style reflects more of a modern skinny jean with a bootcut twist. Made of stretch denim (98% cotton 2% elastane), this ensures that the comfort that we have all come to love is present in these jeans. They are super soft denim with an 8″ rise meaning they hit my waist just where I like, not too high and not too low. The fit through the leg is great and although I’m not usually a fan of “whiskering” and “wrinkling” in jeans these felt like I had broken them in myself, the aging process of the denim looks and feels natural. Fitting very true to size with the traditional 5 pocket styling and Hudson’s distinctive flap back pocket (which don’t bunch or make the bum looked larger than is necessary), these have a double button closure at top which is actually nice as the band at the waist is a bit thicker than I usually find on jeans.
On a personal level I have a thing for the Union Jack, in my room I have a whole wall painted with it. I think the Hudson logo is great and I love the Union Jack button on the coin pocket (and for those of us identifying jeans in photos it does make life easier). I was pretty crazy about the Union Jack distressed jean they did last season and they were a pair I would have loved to own but missed my chance. Although Hudson are based in California, the Union Jack has given us consumers the feeling that this brand is from the UK and enlisting Georgia May Jagger as the face (and body) of the brand has further enhanced this. Thanks to a fantastic marketing campaign both in print and viral media, Hudson (which has only been around since 2002) has quickly been associated with major celebs like Kate Hudson (no relation), Rihanna and Gisele Bundchen.
I would say that this take on a contemporary Bootcut has changed the way I see the style. I am a fan of Hudson but it has been more from a distance (loving their ads and viral videos) and now I have the added perspective of being a fan for their fit and quality of denim. The idea that Ms. Jagger will be collaborating on an upcoming collection with Hudson also has me really looking forward to what they will create together.
