There is no denying it, these jeans are not going to be to everyone’s taste. But I have to admit that they did bring a smile to my face when I saw the promo photos. Sonas Denim is the brainchild of Gerry Kelly, originally from Ireland now based in San Francisco. Gerry caught the traveling bug some years ago and helped fund his trips through Greece, Turkey, Israel, Sinai and Egypt by selling clothing and jewellery to fellow travellers. Along the way Gerry picked up the skill of making his own clothing which he sold at festivals around the globe. These days he is focusing on denim and each pair of jeans are cut and sewn by hand in San Franciso resulting in their unique character. They might not quite be my cup of tea but I admire Gerry’s spirit, after all Sonas is Gaelic for happiness, good fortune, prosperity and luck. And who couldn’t do with a bit of that.

  1. There were very similar jeans made from patches to the blue pair back in the 1970s. The technique suits flares, but what bloke would be seen dead in flares today?

  3. Gerry is a fantastic craftsman.  I have seen these jeans in action, and they look even better in person!  Amazing style.  He’s also a great man.  Everyone needs to buy a pair!
