Strike Gold SG2105 Pure Gold Jean @ Self Edge SG2105_01.jpg

My current favourite denim brand is Japan’s Strike Gold, so I was delighted to see the specialist denim store Self Edge has got their hands on a few pairs of a brand new style. The SG2105 Pure Gold Jean is apparently a reissue of an earlier style called the XXX5, this new version is a slim straight jean made from pure indigo dyed thread for the warp (the outside of the denim) and a beige mud dyed thread for the weft (the underside of the denim). The denim itself weighs 17oz which (and I am showing my obsessive side here) is my favourite weight of denim, making them feel substantial but not too heavy. At $395 they don’t come cheap but what you are paying for is in my opinion the best denim money can buy. My order is already in.

  3. why pay $395.00 for a pair of jeans that are made out of fabric that cost way less tha $10.00 a yard ? ? ?

    • well first of all this sort of denim is certainly going to cost more that $10 per yard. And secondly I pay that much money because I like the jeans and that’s what they cost. I have tried lots and lots of jeans over the years and Strike Gold are my favourites. Like I said in the post, they are not cheap but then you are paying for the best quality denim and classic construction.

    • Just wanted to point out that this fabric cost more than two times what you stated.
The fabric alone to make a pair of size 34 jeans costs $63. That’s just fabric, no thread, rivets, buttons, labor, etc..
