After having posted Naked and Famous and gotten quite a few interesting e-mails from people thanking me for posting this, I will make this a regular feature here on Denimology.
Not all of us appreciate “Real Denim for Real Denimheads”. I totally understand. But, on the other hand, not all of us appreciate what I call “Commercial Denim”, or, if you prefer, “Fashion Denim”. This time I would like to show you what’s going on behind the scenes at the AGAVE brand.
AGAVE has become very well known in the denim world for the perfect execution of their jeans due to the enormous attention they pay to each and every detail. But Jeff Shafer, owner and creator of this brand, has much more to offer to those of us who are heavily into denim, the hard way, the totally committed way. I have had the pleasure of meeting him personally, and he is a “walking denim encyclopedia”!
For those of us who see denim not as something to wear, but something through which to express ourselves – we are looking for the real denim, not fashion denim. We love to take a brand new, stiff, scratchy pair of jeans and make them our own – meaning we wear them relentlessly every day, don’t wash them and as we use them, these jeans become “us”. Totally personal. Every crease in the leg, every wrinkle, every whiskered spot showing on the jeans is our very own.
Jeff is offering a limited edition collection for fall 2012 called the Agave Gold Selvage Collection. Because these are limited edition, each pair is signed and numbered. They feature hand embossed English bridle leather patch tanned in Portland.
