Hey dolls! Today I have a review from a brand that’s fairly new to me – Big Star USA. Although Big Star started in Europe in 1974, it is now being manufactured in Los Angeles. Stars such as Cassie Scerbo, Katherine Heigl, and Sarah Hyland have all been photographed donning the brand.
I received the Big Star Jealousy Low-Rise Skinny Jean in Toyland, and I have to say there really wasn’t anything about this jean that blew me away. I went with a size 28, but now I feel that the size 27 would have been better. Simply because the jean stretches out through a day’s wear. The jean is 98% cotton and 2% spandex, so it has some stretch but not a lot. I’m not a girl that has to have a skin tight skinny jean, but I do like a jean to hold it’s shape. I will say that this jean gets an A+ in the comfort department. I’ve been reaching for this jean each week, especially to wear to work on casual Fridays, since a dark jean is always more appropriate for the office.
The front rise is 7 ¾” and the back is 13 ½”. I definitely like these measurements, but the 32″ inseam is a tad too long for me. I’m 5’10 and I even had to roll the jeans under at the ankles to eliminate bunching (I just hate when skinny jeans have bunching at the ankles). I’ve said it countless times in my denim reviews, but I’m a girl that loves her skinny jeans to hit right at the ankle or slightly above.
I am fond of the dark wash – it’s almost black it’s that dark. I do feel that darker denim is more versatile than lighter washes, simply because darker denim looks more polished and expensive, thus more appropriate for work and evening wear. Overall, I’d say I’m not entirely displeased with this style, but it’s definitely not my fave skinny jean that I’ve tried/reviewed. I just don’t feel that it flattered me as well as other skinny jeans have. Also, I think the $98 price tag is great because it’s lower than most brands, but the price is fitting since I wasn’t extremely impressed with the overall quality of the denim.
