Introducing: Unbranded Unbranded-204.JPG

The Unbranded Brand gives us jeans with no branding, no washes, no embroidery, no ad campaigns and no celebrities. So, all you pay for is the product! Made from top quality rope-dyed selvedge denim.

They say:

“While other companies are completely based on designer ego, celebrity followings and ad campaigns, we have decided to do the opposite. Instead of selling sex, glamor and image, we just sell a better product at a better price. Strange idea, eh?

“We think overpriced over-marketed jeans are silly. That’s why we stripped our jeans down to the core essentials – great denim, perfect trims and solid construction. Have you ever wondered why jeans cost what they do? Why are some “premium” jeans $250 while others are $80?”

Don’t you just love this concept? You are only paying for the product itself and not for the label. Like, how much would an Yves Saint Laurent dress really cost if it didn’t have the YSL label?!

Here is what they say about their denim:

“Our jeans are made from rigid and raw 14.5oz Selvedge denim. Selvedge denim is the only true “vintage” denim as its woven on old-school machines called shuttle looms.

“These old looms were commonplace in American denim mills from the late 1800s to the mid-1900s. In the 1950s, with the rising of youth culture, the birth of rock & roll and the creation of Hollywood celebrity culture, the mills soon abandoned these slower special machines and adopted newer, faster, mass production facilities. Several Japanese mills were happy to pick up many of the discarded looms (and also made reproductions of the vintage machines) so that they could revive the art of denim.

“Selvedge denim is special because it is rare and expensive, because it cannot be mass-produced, and because each yard of denim is a unique piece of wearable art. Just flip up the cuff of your jeans or look inside the coin-pocket to see the neat white & blue “self edge” (hence the term selvedge), which is the “proof” that this denim is made on a shuttle loom and not a new mass-production loom.’

You can find their jeans in about 30 locations in Canada and in the US. I found them at Urban Outfitters and they are less than $80. Again, unfortunately, they only make men’s jeans…. this is just so frustrating for us female denimheads 🙁 Unbranded, please!
