For those of you who read my post about the EA Rugby Signature Skinny Jean here is the second review I promised for my other pair – the City Girl Skinnies. Even after a lot of thought and detailed evaluation I still can’t decide which one I like better – they are both really good so maybe this review will help YOU come to your own conclusion.
The City Girl Skinny is definitely not a simple jean in either the wash or design. It is not your typical five-pocket style with subtle wash effects. This pair has lots of interesting features; big round patch pockets on the front, flap pockets on the back with integrated low zipped pockets and even stitching behind the knee in addition to the aggressive hand sanding, “honey combs” and 3D-whiskers exaggerated by the dark blue wash. Surprisingly all of this together doesn’t come across as tacky or “too much” but works very well for the scruffy, worn-out look and overall “rugged” philosophy of the brand.
The fit of these jeans is actually very nice. It is slim but not through the whole leg like a usual “jegging” and has more room from the knee down. Therefore the leg opening is also bigger – 11.5″ which makes total sense for the 32″ inseam. At first I was quite skeptical about the length, especially considering that alterations are not an option as it would be a crime to cut off all that whiskering and grinding on the bottom. But, after putting the jeans on and messing around a bit with the stacking I figured out that I actually liked such a look. As for the rise, this pair is certainly one of the lowest I currently have.
The City Girl Skinny Denim is our beloved 98% cotton and 2% spandex combo and has all of the favorite qualities of this blend – stretchiness and the ability to keep its shape during wear. It is relatively thick and is more on the heavier side but still has a nice, soft hand feel which adds to the already high level of comfort.
I did mention in my previous EA Rugby post that size wise these jeans are not ideal for me. 25 is the smallest on the chart and though it does fit pretty well in the leg it definitely should be smaller in the waist and tush.
By the way, you have probably already noticed my EA Rugby T-Shirt which I also got with my jeans. I can’t say it is exactly my style but I do like it a lot and enjoy wearing it. The 100% cotton fabric is very supple, the fit is nice and in general it truly is a well-made garment.
So far based on the product I’ve gotten EA Rugby is a company with a distinct look and feel that can attract a lot of fans and I am definitely one who is rooting for them!
