I hope you guys read my review of the 7 For All Mankind Skinny in Red lacquer and if so I’m sure you remember how pumped I was about those jeans. I was really blown away by the technique and the overall look so of course I had to get the matching jacket in black!
The 7 For All Mankind Moto Denim Jacket in Black Lacquer is really awesome for several reasons. First of all I LOVE the high-gloss coating which, for those who haven’t read my previous review, is achieved by a foil heat transplant application. Hand pressed piece by piece the foil melts into the fabric and transforms into a shiny glaze that creates a chic and edgy patent-leather-like appeal. This technique also gives additional texture to the garment due to the intentional unevenness of the coating.
Secondly, the fit of this denim jacket is absolutely great. It is a very classic silhouette with minimal darting and a bit more room in the torso. I like that you can wear it over a thick knit or a sweater versus some other jackets that only work over a jersey tee. The length is actually quite perfect and will be good for taller people as well as for those who are a medium height. Sleeves are also long enough for those who are tall or for those who like to roll their cuffs up. With all of that said this jacket fits true to size and my usual XS is just right for me.
You will probably be very surprised by the “hand” of this denim; I definitely was. It is amazing how soft and supple it is! The coating doesn’t take away any of those qualities and only adds structure to the fabric and therefore the overall garment. Also, the 98% cotton/2% spandex blend is quite stretchy, so the jacket feels very nice and comfortable on. Plus there is no need to worry about “bubble” elbows as the fabric has great shape retention and recovery.
The 7 For All Mankind Moto Denim Jacket in Black Lacquer is a really amazing piece and will be a fantastic addition to any wardrobe. It is a great alternative to a regular jean or black leather jacket and a more modern and hip alternative to a classic black cardigan. I noticed that I have worn it a ton over the last few weeks – it goes with so many outfits (its versatility is undeniable) and truly elevates and adds interest to your overall look. I love this jacket and know you will too!
