I mentioned in a previous denim review that I am a big fan of distressed denim, and I especially love when the distressing is done right. These J Brand Nash Slouchy Shorts are my case in point. The distressed holes on either leg are symmetrical and the holes are torn so perfectly — I only wish I could DIY my denim to look like this! Distressed denim is that popular trend we are seeing year after year, and slouchier pants and shorts are popping up everywhere lately. Slouchy styles equal added comfort, and when they are styled right, the look is effortless chic at its best.
These shorts are comprised of 100% cotton – so zero stretch in this denim, but it’s definitely not needed with this style. The rise is 10 inches and the inseam is 7 inches. Currently my waist is 28 inches and my hips are 38 inches, so I originally chose a size 28. However, the size 28 was too big on me, so I ended up going with a size 27. The size 27 was a perfect fit. These shorts fit me just right in the waist, and still gave me the slouchy look I desired.
I love how these shorts can be styled two ways for two completely different looks. Cuffed for a casual, laid-back feel, or worn un-cuffed to expose the frayed hem for an edgier look. The worn edges and subtle fading on this denim helps play up the overall laid back vibe, and gives these shorts a vintage appeal as well. The “Euphoria” wash is perfection – a true medium blue wash that isn’t too light or too dark.
I cannot say enough great things about these denim shorts. It’s really not easy to find the perfect style and fit of denim shorts, as it is with denim jeans. Once you find the perfect pair, you’re hooked! I’ve received countless compliments on them, and I know I’ll be reaching for them constantly throughout the summer and even into the fall. J Brand even these shorts in white– love love love!!
What’s your take on distressed denim, and how do you feel about the slouchy fit of this pair? Would you wear them? If so, how would you style them?
