I totally adore the colorblocking trend that has been huge already for a few seasons. This Spring/Summer it quickly spread into denim and will continue its momentum into the Fall/Winter season. The Emilia Champagne Noir from the latest James Jeans collection is a fabulous example of this popular motif.
As I mentioned I am a big fan of colorblocking; the idea of mixing chunks of colors and shapes may seem easy but in fact can be quite tricky. At the end of the day, it should all make sense and the Emilia Champagne Noir is a perfect illustration of ideal execution of this fascinating trend. The piecing in terms of shapes and placements is clever and well thought out: black side panels and stitched over-the-knee details contrast with a pale beige background to create the illusion of a taller, slimmer frame. I like their choice of a Champagne hue versus stark white combined with black – it is less expected and much more suitable for colder seasons.
The Emilia fit is really great and will work for practically any body type. The medium rise (8.75″ on the front and 13″ on the back) hits right below the belly button hiding any signs of a tummy and shaving off inches from the sides. It sits comfortably around your waist without suffocating and cutting into your stomach. With these jeans it will be super easy to rock out the ever-so-popular cropped silhouette in a stylish and sophisticated way. The 30″ length is nice; it works for both heels and flats without any alterations needed.
The denim of these jeans is on the thicker side and feels very substantial. Its heavier 11 oz. weight is ideal for fall and winter. With that said they are not stiff and have plenty of stretch and a soft hand feel. The 93% cotton/ 6% polyester/ 1% lycra blend has great shape retention qualities and won’t turn into a saggy mess after wearing them all day long.
Size-wise the Emilia seems to run according to the standard chart which is why I wish I had gotten a 24 instead of 25 which is slightly roomy for me. However, thanks to the great cut, they still fit very well and look nice on.
I am stoked about my James Jeans Emilia Champagne Noir jeans and super excited to wear them more! They easily turn a basic tee or solid sweater into a cool, chic outfit and overall just look awesome on. If you are interested in trying colorblocking in denim this pair of jeans is the way to do it!
