Denimology was able to catch up with Mike before he left for Fashion Week – Las Vegas and ask him some questions about his sponsorship with Fashion Hope.
What brought about your sponsorship with Fashion Hope?
Funny story – I actually was in Milwaukee, WI during the Miss Wisconsin Scholarship in June, checking out some boutiques in their downtown area, when I came across Luci Boutique on Water Street. I met the owner of Luci’s who happens to be involved with Fashion Hope. After hearing about their cause, I thought it would be a great idea to be a part of it in some way.
Why did Mike Lanes Jeans choose to sponsor Fashion Hope?
First and foremost, we at Mike Lanes Jeans love being involved in charities and the positive impact it brings. Once learning more about the Fashion Hope organization and their purpose, we were thrilled to become one of their sponsors! This foundation deals in the relief of victims of human trafficking, which is becoming more of a major issue in our society and around the world. We are “past the pre-historic age!” The act of preying on women and children for the sole purpose of exploitation is horrific and inhumane, so it was only right that we put efforts in to making a positive change.
What benefits are Mike Lanes Jeans hoping to see from this sponsorship?
Mike Lanes Jeans are always in support for the cause of helping our communities. It’s about helping each other in any way possible. I feel in doing that, you get more positive things in return. To be able to do a good deed – I think is great that my team and my brand can be a representation of that.
Can you share any of the details of the sponsorship?
In part of the sponsorship, we have selected a variety of styles from our premium denim collection, specifically for Fashion Hope, and a portion of the proceeds will be given to the organization on our behalf.
In the past, you have also supported the Starlight Children’s Foundation and the Children’s Miracle Network. Do you believe all businesses should be involved in helping non-profit organizations?
Definitely! I agree that all businesses should be involved in helping out their fellow man, in general. It’s good for the soul and good all around. To be able to bring awareness towards a cause you’re passionate about and helping people in the process, while bringing awareness for your own business: it’s a win-win situation.
How would you suggest others in the fashion industry get involved in making the world a better place to live?
There are a number of ways and a number of things those in the fashion industry can do to make a difference. My advice would be to get involved in anything that permits you to give back – whether it is giving back to the environment, for example. Or ways to help keep the economy flowing and providing jobs. Sometimes we in the fashion industry don’t realize how influential we are to everyone. We should be using our influences to reach out to the world and let them know that we are aware of worldly issues and we have the power to make a change, together.
