Revel, one of the latest Levi’s programs, is definitely getting a lot of buzz. According to them, these “revolutionary” jeans provide “serious shaping” and “incredible comfort”. That’s quite a promise and I was very excited to test them for myself!
The first thing I wanted to understand was what “Revel” actually was and after some reading I figured out that it is a combination of a few things: a perfect fit with strategically placed special seaming, 4-way stretch fabric with a super soft “hand” and “secret” Liquid Shaping technology (patent pending). And though all of this may sound a bit bizarre I clearly understood and felt all of these features once I put them on. For example, I noticed right away the unusual back yoke construction with the extra seam that instantly lifts your butt and makes it look rounder. Or even the Liquid Shaping technology is totally visible when you turn the jeans inside out – you can see areas where it has been applied to differentiate properties of the fabric throughout the garment.
Levi’s Revel comes in Curve ID fits and I must say that this system seems to work very well. After taking a short survey online I was identified as a Slight Curve and after trying the jeans on I found that they were perfect for my body type. The fit is great on many levels; from the comfortable and flattering medium rise to the high and fairly small back pockets everything works together cohesively to create a long, lean, tightly shaped silhouette. These jeans are only available in a 32″ inseam and I prefer a shorter inseam for my skinnies especially when they have an 11″ leg opening; otherwise there is too much bulk from the stacking on the bottom. Obviously this problem can be fixed by simple alterations but it’d be nice to have a choice when buying them.
I really liked the denim of my Revel Skinnies. As I mentioned before it is a 4-way stretch fabric that provides 360 degrees of ultimate comfort and impeccable shape recovery. The cotton blend has a very high elastane level (11%!) along with 15% polyester but doesn’t feel mushy (like some super-stretchy fabrics do) and is pretty structured working together with the fit to achieve a great shape. The hand feel is extremely soft and velvety.
In addition to the fact that Levi’s Revel delivers what they promise they are also a pair of simply great looking jeans. The Dark Pressed wash is classy and versatile and universally flattering and slimming. The spicy orange stitching adds visual interest as well as a touch of authenticity. I also like feminine detail of a shiny metallic leather back label with logo embroidery.
The $98 price is another plus to the endless list of Levi’s Revel positives. It’s a real steal for this killer combo of an iconic brand and modern innovation that truly lives up to the hype!
