“The collections of Los Angeles-based cult denim brand THVM (This Here Very Moment), are coveted for their elegantly spare appearance, a counterpoint to the skilled design and rigorous hand processes required to achieve it. Husband and wife designers–Brian Kim and Olga Nazarova–have a fervent passion for denim as a key wardrobe essential; its essence determined by the precision of shape and fit, and then distilled to its starkest simplicity so as not to interfere with the wearer’s personal style. THVM’s strategy of simplification means meticulous detailing but with function, more than decoration, in mind–and applied with a restraint that makes it invisible to the eye. Founded in 2009 by musician turned denim designer Kim, industry design talent Nazarova, and visionary denim wear executive Nicola Scagnolari, THVM’s core philosophy embodies dynamic collaboration with multi-disciplinary arts, as well as with progressive denim laundries and fabric mills to address environmental concerns in manufacturing and to test the limits of fabric capability. THVM collections are produced in Los Angeles and carried in select luxury boutiques and department stores worldwide.”
I absolutely adore the idea of THVM’s proposal not to interfere with the wearer’s personal style. This is especially important for a real denim head like me. I want to feel that a pair of jeans is ME, shows ME how I am, reflects the way I am. I don’t want to be seen “through” my jeans. I want to be. Period. And I am wearing jeans that are the extension of me. Period. No frills, no micky macky playful details, just a pair of plain stark denim, preferably non stretch but 100% cotton, not artifice. I hope you understand where I am going….
