Koral Syd Pieced Slim Jacket in Grey Acid Wash - front view
I love denim jackets and since I live in California I can wear them year ‘round so of course I have quite a collection. At a certain point though I realized that it was becoming more and more difficult, in fact almost impossible, to find something different from what was already in my closet. Well that was before I got the [search]Koral[/search] Syd Pieced Slim Denim Jacket in Grey Acid Wash and it’s like nothing I’ve ever had before.

The Syd is definitely an eye-catcher. From the complex piecing to the acid wash, nothing about this jacket is ordinary. Although the wash is very reminiscent of the 90’s it is definitely re-worked and leaves the big shoulder pads and “teased to the ceiling hair” in the past (RIP to them!). Monochromatic white and grey executed in geometrical piecing is ultra fresh and modern and is an instant update to your outfit. Wear it with contrasting all black or white for a cool and edgy look or throw it on over a more casual ensemble to add a bit of excitement. For a striking, scene-stealing effect suit it up with the matching Bowen skinnies; oh how I wish I had those!!!

The Syd is a slim jacket and overall pretty fitted. However it has plenty of room in the chest, shoulders and sleeves which provides comfort as well as the ability to layer. I was somewhat anxious about the extensive piecing on the sleeves with so many vertical and in particular, horizontal seams. I’ve seen plenty of jackets where these details have simply broken up what was supposed to be a smooth line in the silhouette and actually ended up causing unflattering bulging. But props to the Koral patternmakers who managed to precisely align all of the sections together and avoid any excess tension in the stitching resulting in a flawlessly contoured sleeve. The medium length of this jacket with the waistband hitting right above the hip bone is very versatile; it will look as nice with pants as it does with skirts or dresses which is important considering we all love to wear those a lot in the spring and summer.

The denim of this jacket is a 98% cotton and 2% polyurethane blend with just a little bit of stretch to ensure freedom of movement. While it is quite “beefy” and substantial enough to keep you warm on a cool spring day it is also very soft and has a great hand feel. Overall the Syd is a comfy jacket on every level.

If you read my previous review about the Koral Mid-Rise Skinnies in 12 Months Extreme you already know that this brand is really consistent with sizing. Just like their jeans, I got this jacket in my usual XS size and it fits perfectly.

Until this very year I wasn’t very familiar with Koral Los Angeles; of course I’ve heard and read about them and saw a few pieces in stores and online but I didn’t own a single thing from them. What a miss!!! My very first pair of jeans and now this awesome Syd Pieced Slim Denim Jacket in Grey Acid Wash with its exceptional fit, premium quality and unique look instantly turned me into a Koral Fan.

I am the EU contributor and product reviewer for Denimology. From the time I was 5 years old browsing through my first fashion magazine I knew I wanted to be in this industry. While working as a Merchandiser at Gloria Jeans, the largest denim manufacturer and retailer in Russia, I discovered my passion for denim. It fascinated me then and years later it fascinates me even more. Every day I learn and discover something new and exciting about denim and am thrilled to do it hand in hand with all of you!
