I love printed denim! There, I said it. I’ve been convinced. It wasn’t long ago that I feared diving into the world of denim with a visible texture, and I’m not entirely sure why. I’m glad I can dig them now, though, and they’ve become a fun addition to my wardrobe! Good thing my tastes grew just in time for summer, when colors and patterns and everything fun once again emerges from our closets to hit the sun’s rays and everything that comes with it in style…festivals, beach parties, shopping trips…you name it. KUT From The Kloth‘s Spring 2014 lookbook is blooming with fun warm weather looks, and so it wasn’t difficult for me to choose which jean I would review when I was given an opportunity to write a review for the brand. So, without further ado, here’s a KUT From The Kloth Mia Toothpick Skinny in Young review!
KUT From The Kloth is a women’s denim and contemporary fashion brand from sunny Los Angeles, California. In 2006 the brand was born with a vision to provide great fitting, on-trend clothing at an affordable price. The brand states, “We know that the right pair of jeans can transform how a woman looks and feels; that’s why our jeans are always crafted for fit, comfort, and style. KUT denim is made for the woman who wants to look and feel great in her jeans, wherever life takes her. We design denim with soul. We design denim with style. We design denim for you.” I’d say KUT got that right on point…when I first received the Mia Toothpick Skinny in Young, I absolutely loved the way the bluish diamond pattern on these jeans just looked melted on, as if they were a part of these jeans, and not just printed on. They have a beautiful fade along with the jeans, that have a garment-dyed look with darker blue fabric around the seams and inside the waist. The back pockets have very minimal styling with just the KUT “K” on the outside bottom of the left pocket, and rounded stitching along the perimeter of both. I also like the three belt loops in the back, and the unique branded rivets and front button! This look definitely gives them soul and style! I almost feel they were made for me too, just in time for my newfound fascination with printed denim…these have been really fun to style.
The KUT From The Kloth Mia Toothpick Skinny in Young is a solid 99% cotton and 1% spandex, giving them a thick, durable feel but with just enough stretch to slide right on and hug enough to stay put. They are a basic 5-pocket skinny style, with a nice 31” inseam, 13.5” knee opening and 10.5” leg opening which rolls up nicely if it’s a little warm out or want to show off a cute ankle tattoo, sandal strap or adornment. With a 9” rise, they sit comfortably over my hips with just enough tightness to stay pulled up. I’ve worn them a few times now and they have only stretched out enough to fit well, and haven’t bagged out at all. I never have to pull them up throughout the day and they don’t bunch up anywhere either. As far as fit, these are great. The only thing that I noticed was the fact that I’ve been so used to a lot of the more premium, synthetic, stretchy, shape-retention styles I’ve had the chance to review lately that I haven’t been so used to the thicker, less stretchy styles lately. I feared they’d stretch out too much but so far, so good, and they definitely are comfortable! I don’t think I’d wear them on a really hot day though…as breathable as cotton is, the heavier weight of these might fare better in 70° or below weather.
As mentioned, these are so fun to style! As with any printed jean (or any printed clothing item for that matter), I like pairing them with solids or color blocked pieces. Even though they are printed, the color is neutral enough to fit with any other color. I don’t think I’d wear them out to a nice dinner, but during the day for a shopping trip, a concert, or maybe even a party would be fair game. I’d recommend these to anyone who likes to (or is looking to) add some character to their wardrobe!
