In recent years many people and companies have planned to bring denim manufacturing back to the US. We are introducing a new brand to Denimology that is contributing to this movement. The “Made in the USA” label can mean different things to so many of us and Norman Russell is proud to sew these labels on to each pair by hand.
To me, the origins of companies or the stories behind the names are always interesting. Some are stories of passion, some of stories of triumph and then there are stories of heritage. The story behind Norman Russell’s origin is one of passion born from a rich family heritage and tradition passed on through three generations. Even when I read the details of the heritage on the brand’s website, I could feel the love and devotion in the words of the brand’s founder. A project created to honor a family that stood for so many things – with honor and pride topping them all. From a hard-nosed navy boxing grandfather to an adventurous outdoorsman brother, Norman Russell takes inspiration from past and current generations. Using high quality American made selvedge denim, each pair is hand constructed and carefully crafted for a one-of-kind experience.
The name is derived from a hybrid of the founder’s grandfather and father with even the fits named after close friends of the brand. So there is really the “family business” feeling in every fabric of Norman Russell. Offering just three denim fits, The Cookie (Slim), The Hammer (Straight) and The Fish (Boot), Norman Russell ensuring that they continue to focus on quality and not quantity. The jeans are made from a rugged 13.5 ounce denim and available in raw and washed styles. Aside from the denim, the brand also produces some great looking Japanese chambray shirts in different weights. All of the fabrics for the shirts are sourced in the USA and handmade in the very same country. The shirts offer unique construction details like a hidden pocket or shoulder stitching creating a more handcrafted and vintage vibe.Sorry ladies, but Norman Russell is only manufacturing for men at the moment. We need to keep something for ourselves! Check them out online and support a brand that helps honor something we can all get behind, family.I will also be posting a review soon for the The Cookie fit in Raw Navy so feel free to check back again and hear the down and dirty.
Welcome to Denimology Norman Russell.
