Red Engine Vamp High Rise Skinny Crop Zip Jean in Cashmere Review - Front View

Hi everyone, Lana here again with a Red Engine Vamp High Rise Skinny Crop Zip Jean in Cashmere review! I’m normally not one for crop jeans, as I’m more athletic than leggy and they tend to make me feel and look stumpier than a nice long skinny jean does. However, in the summer, they are always desirable for that extra bit of skin exposure to keep cool and to show off a cute manicure and stylish sandals! Every now and then I’ll give them a go for this reason, but I will usually offset the crop with a low rise to at least elongate the torso a bit in case of the appearance of shorter legs. High-rise crops were off my radar before this review, and I think I might have a change of heart, thanks to Red Engine!

Red Engine has been on my mind for a long time, ever since I learned about them at a local boutique I used to design print collateral for. I was very happy to finally try them out for myself! The brand was created by denim fans Jim Boldes and Kristy Harlan, and is based on the appeal, both in look and in feel, of vintage denim. They are another on the list of denim brands proudly made in the good ol’ USA, specifically Los Angeles, California. Red Engine imports quality fabrics from Japan and Europe, and every pair is built and detailed entirely by hand, making each one unique. I had heard a lot of great things about this brand, and I have to say they lived up to my expectations!

Red Engine Vamp High Rise Skinny Crop Zip Jean in Cashmere Review - Back View

I first heard of Red Engine‘s Cashmere wash in an e-newsletter, which stated โ€œour cashmere wash is the perfect mix of opulence and comfort. An ultra-stretch, super-soft denim that will never lose shape. Now, you can truly live in luxury.โ€ I figured that was a great time to finally check the brand out! Red Engine sent me three pairs for review: The Vamp High Rise Skinny Crop Zip Jean in Cashmere, the super silky Scorcher Super Skinny Skinny in Moonlight, and the Scorcher in Sugar. The Scorcher in Sugar is a stretchy twill style and was sent after a previously-sent pair, the Scorcher in a light destroyed wash with a thicker, mostly cotton blend, stretched out about a whole size! I received my usual size 26 in all of them, except for the Scorcher in Moonlight in which I got a 25 due to availability. The Vamp here was snug but not constricting and kept its shape over several wears, while the destroyed Scorcher stretched out a lot (could have taken a 25), and the Scorcher in Moonlight was stretchy and soft enough to fit perfectly. The Sugar in 26 was a good fit! As usual, fit depended on fabric content/thickness and amount of stretch! Stay tuned for my individual reviews for each of these jeans.

The Red Engine Vamp in Cashmere is a perfect fit at 26, hugging every curve with a 44% Cotton/42% Lyocell/12% Polyester/2% Elastane fabric blend, and as mentioned above, they have lived up to the claim–I’ve worn them many times without them stretching out! They certainly are soft too. I actually think the higher rise, which hits just below my belly button without feeling too tight or uncomfortable, helps eliminate the short, stumpier look that cropped pants can give (actually I think these make my legs look longer and slimmer), and I absolutely love the zippers! These definitely are cut in such a way that they are actually more flattering than anything on my curvier figure, but I am sure they would compliment any figure well. The wash is so pretty. It’s dark, but once you take them out in the sun, it shows its true colors of a pretty blend of a lighter, vibrant blue in the faded areas.

This jean is very versatile…I’d say it has a very high-class look and is easy to dress up, but I wear them casually too. I’ve been enjoying them with heels at work and on the weekends at the boardwalk with some cute flat sandals. The Vamp is definitely a great summer jean but I could see myself wearing them in the winter with the crop hidden under some tall boots. I tend to wear longer tops since I have a fairly short torso with higher hipbones, but I’m sure with a taller figure, these would be adorable with a cropped top! If you are looking for a nice cropped, easy to dress up jean for the spring and summer months, the Red Engine Vamp High Rise Skinny Crop Zip Jean in Cashmere is a great bet.
