Black Orchid Harper Skinny Boyfriend Jeans - front view

Besides Skinnies, Boyfriend Jeans are definitely one of my favorite denim styles. Now in particular, I catch myself reaching for them more and more often; their casual vibe is just so perfect for the laid-back summer season. Of course I was extremely excited to receive these Black Orchid Harper Skinny Boyfriend Jeans in Daybreaker to review and, by the way, they couldn’t have been any better 🙂

Needless to say I have quite a few boyfriend jeans (and love each one of them to pieces!) however this Black Orchid style is unlike anything I already own. It’s unique on many levels starting from the fit to the very last detail of the finish. I absolutely adore the ripped & repaired feature of these jeans versus the typical destroyed styles from other brands. The denim backing the holes is slightly mismatched and darker than the garment’s medium wash making the jeans appear to be more authentic, more rugged. And thanks to this they are machine washable (which is awesome!) unlike many fully distressed jeans. The large square-ish back pockets placed a bit lower on the tush are another super cool detail that totally plays into the “borrowed-from-your-guy” look. I also like the minimalistic color, finish and design of Black Orchid’s hardware & labeling – very suitable for this style.

The Harper is a Skinny Boyfriend jean which means that it is roomy through the hip and upper thigh and somewhat fitted through the rest of the leg. The pant’s slouchiness is mostly on the top which makes the silhouette easy while still sexy. The 30” inseam (rolled) is longer than most other boyfriends and totally makes sense if you really think about it. When cuffed the hem hits just below the ankle (like in regular full-length jeans) with a slightly loose fit to give the jeans more of a boy-ish appeal. However they also look great when worn straight without a cuff.

The denim used for these jeans is divine! With the 81% cotton and 19% lyocell content it doesn’t have any stretch however it is SO COMFORTABLE! In fact it has this amazing “worn-in” softness that you will usually only get from a pair of your favorite jeans that you’ve had for years. I was also pleasantly surprised that the Harper didn’t stretch out at all even after hours of wear which can sometimes be an issue with some rigid denims.

I got these jeans in my regular size and love how they fit, exactly how a Skinny Boyfriend should. On the other hand if you are into a slouchier look you can go with one size up and still not be afraid of them being too big.

You can’t go wrong with the Black Orchid Harper Skinny Boyfriend Jeans in Daybreaker – they are seriously one of the coolest boyfriend styles on the market! Amazing job, Black Orchid!!!

I am the EU contributor and product reviewer for Denimology. From the time I was 5 years old browsing through my first fashion magazine I knew I wanted to be in this industry. While working as a Merchandiser at Gloria Jeans, the largest denim manufacturer and retailer in Russia, I discovered my passion for denim. It fascinated me then and years later it fascinates me even more. Every day I learn and discover something new and exciting about denim and am thrilled to do it hand in hand with all of you!
