For today’s review, I’m testing out a brand new line called Bluer Denim with the Bluer Denim Slim Skinny High Rise in Soul Mate Medium wash. If you aren’t familiar with Bluer Denim, they are an entirely Made-In-America denim brand based in Portland, Oregon. The entire process, starting from cotton picked in Georgia, to their construction in Los Angeles, is based in the United States. Even the finishings, from the rivets to the zippers, are from domestic manufacturers. It’s a really cool concept, as so many premium denim brands have moved their production and manufacturing overseas.
The brand is available exclusively online, which allows them to keep their prices low. The women’s line ranges between $95 – $145 and their men’s line is priced comparably, $95 – $125. Plus, they have a few really cool jackets and denim accessories sold alongside their core denim line that I’d recommend checking out.
For my review, I tested out the Slim Skinny High Rise fit, which features what they call a “slim skinny” leg opening at 12”. The jeans also feature a higher rise, which fit perfectly (and comfortably) without feeling too pin-up or like dreaded “mom jeans”. After wearing these around, the best way to explain them is that they are a great, classic, go-to pair. They feel very Americana – true blue jeans. There is only 1% stretch in these, so the fit is more similar to selvage denim, and will fit and break in more slouchy than your skinny legging jeans with 5%+ stretch.
It’s important to understand the fit profiles – if you’re looking for super skinny, I’d suggest the matchstick. If you’re looking for a slim leg with a little give, that doesn’t hug like a legging, the Slim Skinny is a great option. Bluer Denim also offers a classic boot and boy-cut selvage option on their women’s line.
For the wash, I tried out the Soul Mate Medium, but each fit comes in 3 washes: dark, medium and rinse. The medium is the most casual option, the dark is a dark wash with some whiskering and white showing through, and the rinse is a solid saturated dark wash (the most formal wash at Bluer).
Bluer Denim is available exclusively online here. And to eliminate the hesitation in buying online from a new brand, Bluer offers a “Home Try-On” policy where you can select three pairs of jeans and they will ship them to you (for free!) to try on, and you only pay for what you keep (and free returns on what you don’t).
And as an added bonus, and to encourage you to give your old jeans a second life, for every pair of jeans you donate through Bluer Denim, your receive a $5 discount on your next pair!
