Kate Spade Saturday High-Waisted Jean Shorts in Blue Dust Splatter Review
I’ve always been a huge fan of Kate Spade New York and the charming, playful elegance of their collections. Not only can you count on the originality of their designs but also on an impeccable fit and “solid” quality. While reasonably priced for what you get, I still wish KSNY was a little bit cheaper… probably so I could buy more 🙂 In Spring ’13 I was absolutely stoked to find out about the launch of the new Kate Spade SATURDAY brand that had so much of the things that I love about KSNY while being much more affordable. This review is about one of the pieces from that young line – the Kate Spade SATURDAY High-Waisted Jean Shorts in Blue Dust Splatter.

Even if you are you not familiar with this brand yet you may have seen this print before here on Denimology – remember the post about beautiful Frieda Pinto wearing the jeans in the same Blue Dust Splatter? I liked those right away!!! And the shorts (at the end of the day, it is summer right now) were an absolute no-brainer choice for my review. As much as I liked them on the picture online I liked them even more when I finally saw them in person. In reality their blue shade is prettier and definitely brighter and more vivid. Unfortunately it doesn’t translate as well when photographed. The splatter pattern is really cute and somewhat subtle especially in the blue colorway (the Tawny Splatter is more contrasting) which makes these shorts a perfect match not only for solid but also printed tops and accessories.

These shorts are $80 which is pretty awesome for a designer brand piece. I was quite curious to see how the quality would compare to the original Kate Spade line and if it has gone down together with the price. I must say I am very impressed with how well-made these shorts are – clearly nothing was compromised in achieving lower costs. Everything here to the very last stitch is beautifully done.

These shorts fit pretty awesome and are definitely one of my favorites among high-waisted styles. This trendy silhouette is nicely slim through the top part and flares out into a pretty wide leg opening which is incredibly flattering. The high rise with the waistband hitting right at the belly button also makes your legs visually longer and therefore skinnier. The inseam is 3.75” which is a medium length for shorts and works perfectly for this classy, mod style.

The Splatter Short is made of stretchy denim with the content of 92% cotton, 7% polyester and 1% spandex. It is a pretty substantial, structured fabric that still has plenty of elasticity and a nice, soft hand feel to keep you comfy.

This piece comes in 00,0,2,…,14 sizes that convert into the 24,25,…,32 scale which is used for denim. I asked for the 00 according to the size chart but was a bit unsure – 00 sounds REALLY small. However my choice was right on as the shorts fit absolutely perfect.

The Kate Spade SATURDAY High-Waisted Jean Shorts in Blue Dust Splatter are a fun and exciting piece that showcases this brand’s quirky spirit and joyful attitude and makes me so excited to check out the rest of their collection.

I am the EU contributor and product reviewer for Denimology. From the time I was 5 years old browsing through my first fashion magazine I knew I wanted to be in this industry. While working as a Merchandiser at Gloria Jeans, the largest denim manufacturer and retailer in Russia, I discovered my passion for denim. It fascinated me then and years later it fascinates me even more. Every day I learn and discover something new and exciting about denim and am thrilled to do it hand in hand with all of you!
