7 For All Mankind Button Front Pencil Skirt in Absolute Heritage 5 Review

This Fall 7 For All Mankind seems to have really knocked it out of the park with their new denim skirt styles! What makes me say that? I absolutely LOVE the Black Jeather one that I already reviewed and the second one, the Button Front Pencil Skirt in Absolute Heritage 5, is quite amazing too.

The Absolute Heritage 5 is a medium-to-light wash with delicately done handsanding and has a true vintage vibe. Executed on a slubby Japanese denim with a pronounced grain it definitely feels genuinely authentic. Conversely the feminine and classy pencil silhouette strongly offsets the rugged character of the wash and overall casual nature of the denim to elevate the style of this piece. Shiny flat buttons on the front in a subdued gunmetal color tastefully decorate while playing into the elegant sophistication of the skirt. By the way, I love this new 7FAM hardware that they have started using, these buttons are seriously beautiful; they certainly give the garment a more luxurious and expensive appeal.

The construction of this skirt is very different from the one that I reviewed previously but just as excellent! It features an always flattering high-rise and sits right at your natural waist. You can wear it with a variety of different tops from classic slim blouses to trendy “crops” or even with oversized boxy tees – its fitted, narrow to the knee silhouette can “handle” almost everything 🙂 I like the choice of a triangle front slit versus a regular straight one for this design – the relatively modest below the knee length and a high rise are practically “begging” for a sexy detail like this. It’s a bit more risqué as it gives you a lasting peek-a-boo effect and not only while you are walking. I was quite surprised when I figured out that the full-front closure of this skirt is not-so-full and primarily faux as only three top buttons are functional. Such construction seems to be simple and somewhat insignificant but in actuality is pretty genius! Now you won’t have to worry about bulging and pulling in between the buttons (it could be so disastrous especially when sitting) because the skirt is sewn into one piece.

This skirt’s denim also surprised me as I didn’t expect it to be so incredibly soft and stretchy. It really reminded me of the Gummy Denim also offered by 7FAM (I have a couple of “Gummy” skinnies and love wearing them – they ALWAYS fit and feel great even if I gain a pound or two). It has that gummy, spongy elasticity that is ideal for a high-waisted slim-fitting style like this.

I went with my regular size in this skirt and was pretty happy with the way it fit from the get-go. However the skirt didn’t seem to be structured enough on me which I thought was caused by it not being as tight. I was even thinking about sizing down but the perfectly fitting waistband was holding me back since I really didn’t want to feel uncomfortable and squeezed in a 23. Ironing was an unexpected solution – the issue was not the size but the fact that this soft denim had gotten creased and crinkled during storage and transportation. As soon as I steamed it the skirt looked instantly better and more form-fitted just like I wanted.

Girls, you know how difficult it can be to find the perfect denim pencil skirt since we don’t come across them that often. This 7 For All Mankind Button Front Pencil Skirt in Absolute Heritage 5 is quite a catch and may very well be exactly what you’ve been looking for!

I am the EU contributor and product reviewer for Denimology. From the time I was 5 years old browsing through my first fashion magazine I knew I wanted to be in this industry. While working as a Merchandiser at Gloria Jeans, the largest denim manufacturer and retailer in Russia, I discovered my passion for denim. It fascinated me then and years later it fascinates me even more. Every day I learn and discover something new and exciting about denim and am thrilled to do it hand in hand with all of you!
