Amsterdams Blauw by Maison Scotch Quilted Indigo Bomber Jacket Review

Recently I reviewed a pair of La Parisienne Skinnies in Concrete Dark from the Amsterdams Blauw by Maison Scotch Fall’14 Collection. I was stoked to write a post about those jeans as I truly enjoyed them. The Quilted Indigo Bomber Jacket is another piece from the line that I am also very excited about because it’s pretty awesome too!

This jacket caught my eye right away with its very unusual and unique quilting. Instead of regular diamond shaped stitching this one consists of lots of different geometric shapes and lines that create a complex, a-la tribal pattern which is so “in” right now. Combined with a fun bleached wash that mutes and highlights depending on the shading of the area it looks unexpected and fascinating. I love that this jacket is done in a clean indigo tone that somewhat offsets the over-the-top wash and stitching and keeps the piece as versatile and easy to outfit as a more traditional denim Trucker.

This jacket is done in a classic bomber fit with a few minor and original tweaks. It’s moderately roomy which allows you to layer comfortably without feeling or looking like a cabbage. With the waistband hitting at the hip bone level it is long enough to cover the majority of your top and show off your jeans at the same time. I like that the waistband and sleeves were finished with an elastic band inside of the hem instead of the typical knit rib. It really differentiates this piece from similar silhouettes! It also allows you to wear boxier/chunkier shirts and sweaters underneath as it doesn’t cinch you in as much.

This jacket is made out of a cotton blend knit fabric with the content of 94% cotton, 4% polyester and 1% lycra. This material is INCREDIBLY soft and feels so cozy on. This coat is in fact pretty warm and will be great to wear even when the temperature is in the low 50’s; pair it with a sweater and it can easily replace your fave lighter-weight leathers. As is typical for most quilted styles this jacket is fully lined. By the way, as a result of the wash process the lining has irregular coloring and minor splotching. It might not look the best but it is inside so nobody can really see it. At the end of the day it is a normal and very negligible side effect of the production process.

This bomber comes in 5 sizes from P, 1, …, 4 where P (Petite)=XS, 1=S, etc. I got mine in a size P and as you can see it fits great from the width in the shoulders to the length of the sleeves. If you are unsure what size you are Scotch & Soda has a very detailed size guide that is incredibly helpful.

Girls, this Amsterdams Blauw by Maison Scotch Quilted Indigo Bomber Jacket is totally killer as are lots of other pieces from the Amsterdams Blauw line. If you have a chance you should definitely check out your local Scotch & Soda store or their web-site – I guarantee you won’t leave empty-handed!

I am the EU contributor and product reviewer for Denimology. From the time I was 5 years old browsing through my first fashion magazine I knew I wanted to be in this industry. While working as a Merchandiser at Gloria Jeans, the largest denim manufacturer and retailer in Russia, I discovered my passion for denim. It fascinated me then and years later it fascinates me even more. Every day I learn and discover something new and exciting about denim and am thrilled to do it hand in hand with all of you!

    • Thanks Lana! I totally love them; they are so old but I just can’t part my ways with them 🙂
