This is my first review at Denimology, and I couldn’t be more excited to kick things off with Agave Denim’s Ava Moto Stretch Jean in Black Steel! This is my first experience with Agave denim, and these moto jeans did not disappoint. They arrived in a really stunning box; the modern logo and stellar packaging are a nice touch (even if it is just a box, I love when stores put thought into the packaging). These jeans are a true legging; very fitted, and very stretchy. I love the moto detailing though, I think it sets these apart from all of the other jeggings I own. The black steel color is gorgeous—more of a gray, but still resembles denim. They have a black waist band and black detailing to the top of the front pockets, which is perfect for me given that I have a small obsession with all things black. My first reaction upon putting them on was how comfortable they are, I love that they have the comfort of a legging while still maintaining the look of denim. The front rise is 9 inches, back rise is 12 inches, which feels like a great mid to high rise (the website defines them as high rise, but they didn’t feel too high for me). It’s perfect for me; I’m a mom, so I appreciate not having to worry about anything creeping down (or constantly tugging them up). The inseam is 30 inches– I am 5’3” so they were definitely full length on me, but for the taller ladies, they’d easily be an ankle jean (and equally cute).
The Agave Ava Moto Stretch Jean in Black Steel is so versatile—they can so easily be dressed up or down, worn with flats, boots or heels. I love that you can take these from day to night as well, with a boyfriend cardigan and flats during the day, and a leather jacket and heels at night. And I know I said they are comfortable—but they are seriously comfortable you guys, with 77% cotton, 21% Polyester and 2% Spandex (spandex is my savior). I’m constantly wearing sweats or leggings at home, but I could wear these all day and forget I had real clothes on (which I know my family appreciates)!
I’m also appreciative of how flattering they are—the dark color and moto detailing elongates, and the back pockets are positioned well (though I’m usually one to wear longer tops with skinnies anyway). The front pockets are faux and the back pockets are fully functional, which is ideal on a jegging so as not to add bulk to the front. They are extremely lightweight, not that thick denim that you often see with jeggings, and a really great fabric for year-round wear. And while I love (love, love) distressed denim, these are a refreshing alternative (especially as we enter the cooler months).
I’ve worn them numerous times now, and they truly hold their shape. For a quality, Made-in-America jean, they really are worth the price. I took them in a size 27, my usual size, and they are perfect. I’m excited to pair these with a cashmere sweater for the upcoming holidays, and ballet flats for weekend errands—they’ve quickly become my go-to pair of jeans!
