Hello to all you fierce, fashionable, denim heads! My name is Roxana and I couldn’t be more thrilled to share my reviews with such a fashion-savvy group of gals (and guys!) I’m a 27 year old designer living in the city of Los Angeles. My deep appreciation for denim began when I started working with denim a few years back. I’ve learned so much from some of the most talented denim designers in the industry, and thanks to them my love continues to grow (just like my ever expanding collection of jeans!) Denim is a science, and the overall process is a long one! All the formulas and man hours spent in figuring out the way it fits, shrinks, washes, and moves… its not at all an easy fete; which is why I pay my respects to all the denim designers out there! With that being said, I hope my experience in the fashion industry can help in giving you some helpful insight before buying your next pair. And well, since we are all here for the love of this miraculous, and versatile piece of fabric, I will delay no more and get straight to the topic at hand…The Denim Expert Blue X Only Straight Leg Jeans.
The Denim Expert designs each pair of jeans in Europe, and since they own and operate their own washing and finishing facilities, they have complete control of the quality and look of each pair (Its so much more personal that way don’t you think?) They have long been in the denim game since 1999, manufacturing jeans for popular brands within the European market, and up until recently have begun to apply their expertise to their own line of jeans, which is Blue X Only. Browsing through their website I saw allot of great and innovative washes that were the perfect balance between fashion and function (“function with a capital FUN!) and I cant wait to see what else they have to offer.
The pair I tried out was the The Denim Expert Blue X Only Straight Leg Jeans in a size 26. It’s a “basic” 5 pocket, mid-rise jean with nothing “basic” about it…So, let me explain! Starting with the trimmings: Metal button (we need those), some snazzy rhinestone rivets, and nice dark blue tonal stitching throughout the pant keep it simple yet versatile. The inside of the waistband has a red contrast stitching and it was finished off with an orange woven binding, which was a nice touch considering they could have left it simple.
The fit: As soon as I put these on, I just knew it was right. These jeans glided on effortlessly! Usually I have to do a little shimmy or do a couple air kicks to get some nicely fitted pants on but these took no extra effort at all. With a 28½” inseam the length was just right, I had a little bunching at the ankles and knees, but nothing too bad considering my height (5 2′). With a 10″ leg opening this straight leg fit a bit more tapered than your average straight jean (which I personally think is a bit more flattering) and the 8″ rise sat perfectly below my waistline; hugging my hips and waist without cutting into them.
The fabric: The 98%cotton and 2% spandex give this jean just the right amount of stretch and control. After wearing these for a long period of time (constantly sitting and standing, to bending and running), I never once felt restricted or uncomfortable. There was very little loss of shape in the fabric, and I’d say after the 10 plus hours of wearing them they held up pretty well.
The wash: It was a nice medium to dark wash that had allot character and attitude. The light whiskers at the hip were placed in a natural yet flattering position, that was not too loud or gave me that “hey look at my hips” kind of vibe. Another thing I really like about the wash is the variation of high and lows in the wash. It is a very rich looking pair of jeans and a perfect pair to incorporate into your day-to-night outfits. Keep it classic with a white blouse or make em’ funky with a trendy top and statement shoes!
Simply put, the best way to describe these Blue X Only straight leg jeans By The Denim Expert, is soft, edgy, and versatile.
