Hey there! Back again with another great Blank NYC denim review. This time I’m reviewing a pair of seriously edgy high-rise shorts. Season after season we keep seeing the heavily distressed cut-offs or as I’d like to continue calling them, “daisy dukes” *pronouncing with a southern drawl*. I have like, a kajillion pairs of them, and I am the first to slip into a pair of these as soon as that summer sun graces our sky, and there’s nothing wrong with that. However this time it’s different! I’ve decided to spruce things up and change it up a bit this summer season with a pair of these Blank NYC‘s High-Rise Shorts. Before I received these, I was a bit hesitant about the fit. The word high-rise has always intimidated me, it made me feel a little… lets say, “short waisted”. I’ve tried on several pairs of high-rise shorts and pants throughout the years and I have never been able to find a pair that flattered my short torso and petite frame…until now! And this, this is news ladies and gents! Because rarely do I ever get the chance to actually fit into a pair of these without looking totally “oompa-loompa-ish”. So with all the excitement in my tiny little denim-loving heart I give you my Blank NYC High Rise Shorts in Little Black Box review.
The Fit: The pair I received was a size 27 (I usually wear a 26) but since Blank NYC runs a bit small on certain styles, I decided to size up in these. The size 27 was slightly loose on me, more around the waist and the front hip area. I would definitely say that these Blank NYC High Rise shorts fit true to size and would go for a size 26 instead. These are a semi-fit high rise with a 10 1/2″ front rise and they sat perfectly at waistline. Since I have never been able to find a decent pair of high-rise shorts, Im going to go ahead and say that this is probably what they should all fit like! I really felt these made my waist look smaller, slimmed me out, and even made me feel a little taller! (must be why they are so popular) The 2 1/4″ inseam were the perfect length, short enough to make you feel sexy, but long enough to make you feel classy. The leg opening was also very accommodating, it wasn’t a super tight fit, so there was not cutting into my legs like other tight fitting shorts, in fact it made my legs look slimmer, which is always a plus in my books! The placement of the back pockets and yoke gave me that much needed instant booty lift. Though they were just a tad bit big on me, they were still flattering, and I can only imagine how amazing these would look in my actual size.
The Fabric and Wash: 98%cotton and 2% spandex make up these shorts. “Soft hand”, good quality denim, with just the right amount of stretch. The wash is a dark black coated process with very light sanding around the seams and the pockets (just enough to give it some extra character), very light and naturally placed whiskers at the lower hip, and a tiny little tear around that area as well. One of my favorite things about the wash is the hem! I love the raw unsewn hem, and how the dye picked up and washed out and created a pleat like effect, its a great detail and it really gives this pair some edge.
If you are in the market for a great pair of High-rise shorts, these are it! These Blank NYC, Little Black Box, High Rise shorts are the perfect pair to own if you are looking to change out of you everyday cutoffs. They are easy to wear and will completely refine your style. Simple, edgy, and classic is the best way to describe them. Wear them with a vintage concert tee and some and your rocker girl shoes, for a trendy look. Or wear these with a simple button up blouse, for a more refined and polished look. You can stock up on this “must-have” pair here.
