Q/A - The Diego Milano Guys That Make it WorkChris Kay

We just recently started working with Diego Milano, and were kind of curious about the guys behind the brand, so we asked Amelia Walsh, President, Linda Thithavong, Concept Designer, and Chris Kay, Founder.

Here are a few facts about Diego Milano:

“DIEGO MILANO is a high-end denim collection made from the finest Italian fabric and manufactured entirely in Scottsdale, Arizona. The brand was founded in 2012 by Founder and Creative Director, Chris Kay. Chris began DIEGO MILANO because he felt there was a huge void in the denim industry that did not meet the lifestyle of the “modern rebel’”. His vision was to create a denim brand that combined never-before-seen designs, the best materials on the market, flattering fits, and premium coated washes; all while keeping the brand domestically manufactured. His vision came to life once the doors opened to the DIEGO MILANO Headquarters.

Q: What are your trend predictions for next year?
A: We are predicting Moroccan trends in colors, prints, and prints with a 70’s throwback flare in styling and cuts.

Q: We already own skinny, super skinnies and boyfriend jeans. And are kind of being “pushed” towards flares….What will be the next big style?
A: We love all styles of jeans no matter what’s “trending” at the moment. However, we do see extreme bell bottoms and elephant flares making a big come back!

Q: In terms of denim, do you have any new materials in mind?
A: Denim is such a fun fabric to experiment with! We work with the highest quality of denim in the world so we have no desire to branch into other materials at the moment. We do however love to create denims with new textures. Whether through distressing, pin-tucking, or pleating, we are always looking for innovative ways to manipulate and transform denim.

Q: Do you believe and agree that generally women are getting a bit tired of too much stretch and are ready for more “authentic” denim, maybe even selvedge?
A: When it comes to women’s denim, it is all about the fit! There are certainly advantages on both extremes between stretch and selvedge. And while we do believe there is a point where so much stretch is added to some jeans that it’s no longer really denim, there is a place for it. In the end as long as the jeans make a women feel confident and comfortable, all while making her butt look amazing, we think women will be forever open to all types of denim.

Q: Will prints still be strong for the next few years?
A: Prints will play a huge part for the next few years, and we think we will be seeing more of prints and how they play with textures.

Q: What are your predictions for the men’s denim?
A: We believe men are looking for denim that adds style without too much effort. They are looking for jeans that add to their looks, while not looking like they tried too hard to look fashionable. There is a fine line in which to keep in mind the classic appeal to men’s jeans, while bringing something unique and inventive to the table. We predict men/s denim will shift from the mundane everyday 5-pocket pair to a more unique stylized approach.

Q: Do you believe in stretch jeans for men?
A: There is a time and place for everything. Our men’s denim has a slight stretch and we have found several advantages to it!

Q: What is your personal favorite denim style and why?
A: Personal favorite denim is a wide bell bottom. Main reason they are my favorite is because they are a statement piece while still being classic! I think your jeans should be the focal point of an outfit, and bell bottoms are the perfect way to do that!

Q: Which person, living or dead, would you most like to see in a pair of your jeans?
A: For our men’s, I see someone like Adam Levine wearing our jeans. And someone like Ryn Weaver, or Gwen Stefani, in our women’s line.

Q: Where do you see the brand in 5 years from now?
A: In 5 years we look to be the leader in innovation and trend setting in the denim scene. We plan to be placed in the highest caliber of luxury stores as the must-have premier denim brand. Potentially adding other apparel options to our label, while still focusing on denim.

Q: What special “denim advice” you would like to give to our readers?
A: Don’t be afraid to take risks with your jeans! They don’t have to be just your average indigo, whisker wash, 5-pocket denim. Have fun with it! Let it speak about your personality and style! Break the mold and make a statement with your jeans!

Q: And last, but not least – is there anything else you would like to add for our readers:-)
A: We really pride ourselves in bringing something unique and different to the world of denim. We specialize in the unexpected and take denim to a whole new level.

Now, you probably feel like you just MUST try on a pair of the Diego Milano jeans, good news! – They are having a super cool give away going on here at Denimology. Perfect timing for a pair of new fall jeans!
