Vicunha - New Trends for F/W 16: Alchemy

This is the second part of textile manufacturer, Vicunha’s, trend predictions for next year’s fall and winter 2016. They named it “Alchemy”, and I swear, after looking at these images and reading their inspiration, this whole collection looks like “magic” to me! I am really intrigued, and would love to check out this collection in”real life” one day soon.

Alchemy meets the need for harmony with nature, health and well-being. Small breaks interrupt everyday life and the routine to revive and enrich spirits. Growing plants combined with handicraft activities play a therapeutic role and have a visual impact on the trend that combines the virtues of comfort and functionality. Worn out vintage details unite aesthetically with natural tones. The “up-cycling” concept, inspired by an interesting mix of textures and rustic finishes demonstrate the varied treatment and reworking of old and worn materials.

Shrubbery, flowers and plants are used in unconventional colors and merge with antique fabrics to create looks with patches and other quirky combinations. The workwear look acquires a handcrafted and relaxed touch. Patchwork effects continue to be used, and are developed further to reach a new visually experimental dimension. Fabrics come with a vintage touch and appear in washed-out tones, like retro indigos, fusty greens, and beiges.

Essential Shapes

Her – The design exudes a warm, romantic and modern feel all at the same time. Accentuated and flowing forms like kimonos and poet blouses are combined with maxi pants, long skirts and flowing overalls. Re-use of materials forms a strong source of inspiration from the “textured” look that is obtained by mixing similar looking materials.

Him – For that authentic-seeming look, sportswear meets oriental style elements. Comfortable and modern forms are endowed with sporty details like “loose joggers” with folded hems and hooded shirts. In addition, there are shirts, chinos and kimonos with patches in different sizes.
