Denim shorts are a hot commodity in the denim market, and this year I feel I’ve seen more different frayed styles than ever before! Maybe you could blame festival season, but I think it also could be part of the ’90s revival I’ve been seeing around lately in the fashion world. Either way, they are a timeless piece, and can be dressed up or down surprisingly easily! A good example here is Kelly Rowland in Joe’s shorts. She’s wearing the Joe’s Ex-Lover Short in Hana, which is actually part of Joe’s Japanese denim line! They have the look of rigid denim but are actually quite soft, and are meant to be worn relaxed as a boyfriend fit. However, Kelly appears to have sized down for a more fitted look, wearing them on a casual day out at the US Open with her son, and then again at night in a more swanky setting, pairing these cutoffs with a dressy black blazer, wide brimmed hat, large looped earrings and black laced heels. This is one thing I love about denim…once seen as a workwear standard, and now proving to work in just about any kind of situation, in any kind of style!
