The other day I paid a visit to the Brooklyn pop-up store of the New York based SELVADGE brand. I met the designer and creator, Abdul Ahad Tumbi and I was seriously impressed. The store looks like a candy store, but instead of candy it’s all denim – should I say denim/candy store?! 😉
It is a cozy little space, decorated with a lot of creativity, using the recyclable packaging and papers which are being used to store and pack all the Selvadge denim. See those brown paper tubes – well these are where they pack the jeans and no shopping bag needed. I loved the efficiency of this environmental friendly concept.
Just to remind you, Selvadge is all about 100% environmental friendly and only produces sustainable denim, all made in Los Angeles. Therefore, they also offer you a 25$ discount if you bring in your old pair of jeans to recycle.
Yumi, that is the super knowledgeable lady that works with Abdul, is in charge of the pop-up. She is one of the most well informed denim advisers and she will absolutely find the right pair of jeans for you in the store.
Make sure to pass by the Selvadge store if you happen to be in Brooklyn – it is going to be an amazing denim experience. Even if you don’t buy a pair of jeans right there and then, Yumi and Abdul will love to just have some “denim-talks” with you!
And great news for all the lady denim heads: Selvadge will be launching their women’s selvedge line as of February 2016. The styles will include a skinny, a flare – wow, imagine a selvedge denim flare, untreated and raw! – and a boyfriend style. They will all have a tiny percentage of stretch in them, so they should be super cool fitting AND comfortable.
If you are not able to visit this adorable Selvedge pop-up store, no worries! You can also purchase their denim on their website.
