It is estimated that a sexual assault occurs every two minutes in the United States.
The statistic is being highlighted during the month of April, which is sexual assault awareness month.
Today, Wednesday, April 27, is a chance to stand in solidarity. If your work place will allow it, you’re asked to wear jeans on that day.
Denim Day is now recognized across the globe. It’s a chance to help raise awareness and work toward ending victim blaming.
Created to raise awareness of the epidemic of sexual violence – both reported and unreported – it’s hard not to support the work that Peace Over Violence (the LA based sexual and domestic violence prevention center) is doing. For the third time, the organization has partnered with GUESS to raise money for the fight against sexual violence.
The cause feels especially relevant nowadays. More and more women are coming forward with their stories, most notably with Lady Gaga’s heart-wrenching performance at this year’s Academy Awards with a group of survivors at her side. While it might feel good to pay tribute to the cowboys and the Canadians, this Denim Day, pull on your jeans for the survivors, and to help shrink the pool of victims.
Proceeds from the sales of GUESS denim and select accessories from today Monday, April 25th to Saturday, April 30th, will be donated to Peace Over Violence. Click here to learn more.
