skinny jeans
Joe’s Jeans Icon Ankle

Tailored, cropped pants, especially kick flares, are one of this season’s essential wardrobe staples. Paired with fitted ankle boots or lace-up flats, these abbreviated jeans create the perfect, sleek, right-now silhouette that you’ll want to wear every day.

But if you’re a shortie, finding them in the right fit and cut can be tricky — petites know the all-too-common annoyance of trying on a set of “cropped” jeans or “ankle” pants only to discover that, on you, they’re just regular-length.

Especially when it comes to flare and boot cut jeans – hemming them you always end up loosing. The flare turns into a bootcut, and the bootcut into a straight leg – this is from yours truly REAL experience (I’m a 5’4”). Then there is also the fact that even with skinnies, when you have some details at the hem, if you cut them off, you will loose it – see above image, the slit on the Joe’s jeans.

As for boyfriend jeans, even though you can cuff them, if you cuff them more than three times, it will look awkward with the bulky cuffs, so petite boyfriend jeans are a perfect solution.

Of course, there is always an option to go with a pair of regular cropped jeans. Some brands really got those down to the dot, like the L’Agence cropped skinnies with the ankle zipper (see below).

Even though many petite styles are not always available in stores, plenty of our favorite labels offer cropped jeans with extra-short inseams online. Here are some awesome petites – at all price points, no alterations required.
