American Apparel - Front View

Hi there Denim Fanatics! I am soooo excited to share these reviews with you. My American Apparel review is about the Pencil Jean in Dark Stone Wash Indigo, and to complete this look, I’ve also included the 2X2 Rib Double V Short Sleeve Bodysuit in Black and the Amelia Jacket in Cocoa Bean. This is such a versatile Fall look, I had a ton of fun on this review for you all. Let’s start with my favorite piece…the denim, of course!

The Pencil Jean in Dark Stone Wash Indigo is like nothing I own, so I was really pleased to add this to my growing denim collection. These jeans feel really good when you first put them on, and I believe it’s because of the 2% spandex and 98% cotton. These are high waisted with a 8 ¼ rise. The inseam is right around 30 inches which fits more like an ankle skinny on someone who is around 5 7’.  I am only 5 4’ so there is a small amount of bunching at the ankle which slides into ankle boots nicely.  I also prefer to roll my skinnies up above my shoe, so having this option is perfect for me. The wash on the American Apparel Pencil Jean in Dark Stone Indigo is a very deep blue, it almost looks black from a distance.  It’s a very flattering jean with dual back pockets and a zipper and button closure.  I could easily wear this jean to a backyard BBQ or a night out. The sweet thing about these jeans is that they are at a lower price point than most premium pairs, and won’t set you back by much!

American Apparel - Back View

The American Apparel 2X2 Rib Double V Short Sleeve Bodysuit in Black is to die for! Have you ever put a piece of clothing on and immediately felt sexy? I was definitely feeling this. I paired this with a tan bralette and also wore it alone, it all depends on how the deep V lands on each person. This is a thong bottom bodysuit which keeps it exactly in place and it’s a perfect pair with denim.  It’s 94% Rayon and 4% Spandex. I love the ribbed detail and the material is very soft. Almost all of the American Apparel Models are tall and very thin but this bodysuit looks great on all shapes and sizes. I have curves and I’m on the shorter side, and I received a ton of compliments when I wore this piece.

To complete this look I added the American Apparel Amelia Jacket in Cocoa Bean. This is a lightweight everyday jacket made of a faux silk fabric, and it hits right at the waistline. I love the versatility of the color—it goes so well with everything. I loved pairing this with the Pencil Jean and 2×2 Bodysuit but I could easily wear this with a summer dress or work jacket. I find myself reaching for this jacket when I have no idea what sweater or cardigan to wear. The fit is true to size so if you wear a medium in shirts, then purchase this one in a medium as well. This is definitely a jacket that you can wear all seasons, so it makes for a great investment at a great price!

  1. These jeans are not flattering. It’s not you. It’s the jeans. This is the kind of fit and fabric that I’m always trying to avoid because it instantly creates or exaggerates figure problems.

  2. I had to size up three sizes when I bought some American Apparel jeans and physiologically that was somewhat of a buzz kill.

  3. Hi! I wanted to ask if you actually dry clean your amelia jacket! I just bought one and don’t really want to go through dry cleaning, if you have any tips about how you wash your jacket/if you do dry clean it please let me know!
