Anne Woodson Stone in L'AGENCE Flares

We talk a lot about how a classic black jean is such a must for anyone’s closet. Most opt for skinny jeans, but for some figures, the hourglass shape of a flare jean is the most flattering option! A nice clean flare with no distressing or wash details also works very well for work, a job interview or a swanky dinner date. Here is fashion designer Anne Woodson Stone in L’AGENCE, wearing the Sophie High Rise Flare in Noir. No matter what you may have felt over the years about high rises, there’s no doubt they are super flattering on a wide range of bodies with their amazing waist-accentuating effect. On a flare, legs look longer, and we all know what they say about the slimming effects of black! These flares have it all. The rise is 9″ so they are the perfect height to sit over your hips without feeling uncomfortable, and they are made of a soft and sturdy 94% cotton, 5% polyester, 1% spandex fabric blend so you know they’ll last you and keep you comfortable. L’AGENCE jeans are also made right here in the United States! Anne wears them in a basic tank, which still looks dressy in this simple, effortlessly chic outfit!

Shop the L’AGENCE Sophie High Rise Flare in Noir at Intermix here. If you prefer low rises, try the brand’s Elysse Low Rise Flare in Noir at Shopbop here, which features an 8″ rise.

I’ve been quite the denim fanatic for several years now, and am happy to apply this passion to something that I can share with others. I am also a graphic designer/web developer and have done design work for two of the biggest designer boutiques in town, which is partly to blame for the 100 plus pairs of jeans I now own in my collection! It always fascinates me how much can be done with the denim fabric alone, and the constant innovations will always keep me hooked.

  1. Anyone who has ever seen a curvy girl in flares knows that flares do not “balance” hips/butt. They’re style choice. And they attract a lot of attention.

If a woman doesn’t wish to draw attention to her lower body, a less attention getting cut would be best for her jeans. She can play up her best features and neutralize other areas with well fitting (not overly tight) classic cuts and solid classic dark or medium wash, preferably without bright contrast stitching, or bright grommets or buttons. Classic cuts exude ease and confidence without demanding attention or hiding.

    • Again, there are numerous guides out there showing how to use a flare jean (sometimes bootcut, depending on body shape), to balance out curves and elongate legs. We’ve posted a few ourselves. The key word here is “some figures,” if you read closely.
