I’m not usually a person who flocks to trends…I like what I like. One that has popped up within the last year or so that I absolutely fell for though, is the raw hem. It’s come in many forms: the undone hem, which appears to have been hemmed at one point and taken apart with a seam ripper; or the frayed hem, which simply looks like the hems were cut off. Either way, it’s a fun way to add a little distressing to a jean, especially if you aren’t a fan of distressing itself! Recently we’ve seen another variation emerge though…they are definitely frayed, but now we have uneven hems. Similar to high low (or Hi-Lo) skirts, with the back being longer than the front, these add another level of originality and edge to any jean. Here is Life of Boheme blogger Marta Cygan in frayed uneven hem jeans, wearing them in a dressed up look with black heels, a beautiful white blouse and black clutch. I love seeing denim styles that look casual and a bit rebellious on their own all dressed up, proving that just about any jean can be dressed however you want, if you just know how to do it right!
If you’re a fan, check out a previous post here on Denimology about a similar style by BLANKNYC. I know we’re going to see a lot more of this style around in the next few months or years!
I really like the uneven hem look and I think I prefer the look on long jeans versus cropped.
