cropped skinny jeans

Karlie Kloss and Naomi Watts are giving us some great styling examples for “do it the classic way”. They are proving that you can wear your well loved and distressed light blue jeans, looking very chic and even “office-ready”, by styling them with more conventional clothes like blazers, and accessorizing with bow ties.

Karlie wore her pair of light blue, high rise, cropped skinny jeans from RE/DONE paired with a black tuxedo jacket from BLK DNM. She completed her outfit with a Stella McCartney Bow Print Shirt, Chanel Ballerina fats, and a black, quilted Valentino Rockstud Spike Bag.

Naomi did a similar classic look, but in a more relaxed, albeit still dressier, way. She paired her light blue denim culottes with a navy blazer layered over a frilly loose fitting top. Instead of some classic shoes, like Karlie, Naomi added a bit of spunk to her outfit with a pair of white Old Skool Vans. Maybe this outfit is not really “office” ready”, but it sure has a more elegant and classic vibe.

  1. There are those Old Skool Vans again with the colors reversed. I do not wear sneakers/athletic shoes that often but I hope they continue to be something that is fashionable.

  2. Blazer + shirt is a tricky idea for women. Be sure the blazer is not tight and has a slippery lining.
I was excited about cropped looser denim, until I started to see people in it in real life, including me.
Notice how stumpy Naiomi Watts looks in those culottes? Also the whole outfit has too much volume. Her beautiful proportions are completely lost. The outfit iis wearing her. Imagine how frumpy it would be on a mere mortal.
Kloss’s outfit has less volume, and the jeans have better drape. Ballet flats are more flattering than vans. But we have all seen her look better.
I would love to read blog posts on these questions:
*Flattering way to wear comfy loose jeans? (without wearing a crop top or a body suit)
*Is there a flattering way to wear cropped denim? Where is the best place to crop?
Tall thin people aren’t immune to this issue. I’m size 23, 5’ 8 ½” and I’m returning the JBrrand Alana and Ivy because the crop isn’t flattering. (The tailoring on both jeans is excellent, I love the Ivy for it’s modest, lady-like, playful Katherine Hepburn style, which doesn’t hug under the bottom, and I wish it came in a to the ankle or shoe inseam in a denim less prone bagging out. The Alana does come in a longer length, called Maria, but not in “high def stretch”, which is JBrand’s better stretch fabric. Both jeans would be great on someone of well below average height. Both sit high on the hip bone. Buy one size smaller than your hip size tells you to on the Jbrand size chart if you have narrow hip bones.)

  3. Loose jeans has to be balanced with a
top that is tailored to the body, be it
woven or knit fabric .Not tight but just
    skimming the body .

Crop jeans could be tricky, unless they
are peddle pushers. It’s always best to
measure from the knee to ankle, and
subtract 1/4 the amount and crop it there
