I always try to feature jeans that make a difference in my weekly Top Jean posts. I mean, we don’t always want to wear our regular skinnies or boyfriends only. Sometimes we need a little extra, a “lift”, we feel like we need to stand out in a crowd, right!
So this is why I chose the Tortoise paperbag jeans today. Paperbag jeans have been in quite a few denim collections in the last few years, but never really “made it”. I think it’s a shame because there are so many ways you can style them, and they are truly unique.
I think of paperbag jeans as a more sophisticated boyfriend jean. But you must be careful not to oversize, which is something that I have done in the past – and it does.not.work. And hey, you all know that I am totally into oversizing everything! Even my skinnies are never skinny, but rather slouchy!
The Tortoise brand originally became known a few years ago for for their selvedge and super over destructed and destroyed denim line. They have been expanding internationally and now are making an impressive come-back here in the USA. I will be posting their newest Lookbook here shortly, so stay tuned.
These Tortoise Morenia Paperbag jeans are made of 100% cotton, they are very cropped with an inseam of 24″, and, as the name indicates, feature a super high non-fitting waist which is held together with a braided belt. You can also fold the waistband down for a different kind of look. This style also inspires me to experiment with what to wear with them. Like right now I would wear them with a cropped sweatshirt or turtleneck sweater layered over a bodysuit.
