Those of you who follow us on our social media, already saw my short videos from the launching event of the amazing collaboration of Scott Morrison’s 3×1 and Joe Doucet. Among many things, Doucet is the winner of the Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award for 2017.

And if you haven’t seen it yet, check it out on our Facebook or Instagram. There you will get an idea about the event that took place in the 3×1 Soho store in NYC this past Saturday.

Ever wonder about how would a pair of jeans would have to look like if adapted to our lifestyle nowadays? I mean, nothing wrong with the vintage jeans, or most of the “regular” jeans out there. But you know, after I had checked out these 3×1 / Joe Doucet jeans, it hit me that there are quite some things I have been missing on my denims and didn’t know:

– Microfiber pockets, which are meant to clean and protect your devices

– A larger coin pocket that can fit credit cards and is lined with RFID blocking fabric

– 3M reflective 8-inch black strip through the middle of the back of your leg–exposed to light, the strip will light up, protecting you during night commutes, biking, or walking. This being quite an effective asset according to Scott. He explained to me that living in a bridge and tunnel New York suburb, this reflective stripe really works well for him, as most of the time he wears black so he’s really not very visible when it’s dark in less the well lit suburb streets.

“3×1 partnered with Joe Doucet with the objective being to alter a 19th-century technology, the 5-pocket jean, originally designed for workmen, to accommodate how women and men work and live today – to address the needs of 21st-century life.

3×1 | Joe Doucet employs simple yet impressive finishes: microfiber pockets, to clean and protect one’s devices, a slightly larger coin pocket to accommodate credit cards, lined with RFID blocking fabric, and a 3M singular reflective black 8” strip that runs down the center back leg for extreme reflection while commuting in low light. Crafted in a 12 oz. stretch selvedge denim from Kurabo (Japan), the jean is not only beautiful but also extremely comfortable.

MICROFIBER – The unofficial home for your pocket-size devices, the front pockets have been slightly reshaped and lined with a microfiber fabric for a fresh-clean-upon-removal for your device.

RFID BLOCKING – The “coin pocket” or watch pocket is no longer rendered obsolete; by slightly increasing the size of this all but forgotten pocket, it will now hold your credit card along with your various other cards. Lined with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) blocking fabric, this pocket detail protects you and your information.

3M REFLECTIVE STRIPE – Upon cuffing, a singular reflective black 8” strip runs down the center of your jeans back leg for extreme reflection while commuting in low light.

XX70 – This raw 12 oz. stretch selvedge denim from Kurabo (Japan) will wear in beautifully over time, molding to the body, whiskering and fading uniquely per the wearer. Each moment lived in throughout the day will contribute to the jeans stretch and indigo fade.

This is not just a piece of apparel – this jean is a utility. Created using the finest materials and the highest quality craftsmanship. The central focus and core ethos of 3×1 has always been transparency, to invite people into the jean making process in our SoHo atelier, and give them the opportunity to make something completely unique 3×1 | Joe Doucet is the manifestation of this intention.

The 3×1 | Joe Doucet jean has been constructed for men and women in a slim and straight fit.

For men, in the best-selling M3 fit and for women in a WM3.

Both styles will retail for $395 and will be sold exclusively at the 3×1 store, located at 15 Mercer Street, in SoHo, NYC,  and online. As part of 3×1’s Custom Made Program, patrons will be able to add the 3×1 | Joe Doucet Custom Made Package to any custom pair for the price of $750.”
