Happy 145th anniversary, Levi’s 501® jeans!
Today, May 20th, the 501® jean celebrates its 145th birthday, a milestone we recognize as “501® Day”. The date marks the anniversary of the patent date.
Since the debut of the original button fly jean, millions have reinvented it to express their unique styles. Using 501® jeans as the ultimate canvas for co-creation, wearers around the globe have added to their Levi’s® with personal touches – from chain stitch and airbrush, to pins and patches, to rips and tears.
If you stop and think about it – without these jeans, we wouldn’t be talking here. There would be no Denimology website. You would probably be wearing a pair of polyester pants right now. Ripped, distressed, shredded, trashed… would mean that your clothes have to be thrown out.
What else: Our lives would most likely be less creative, and definitely less inspiring. Or can you imagine ripping up a flower print dress, or a pair of regular pants, adding holes, frayed hems, patches, embellishments, or even some graffiti? I don’t think so.
This said, there will always be room in our closet for one (or two, or three) more 501® jeans.
