“I am a 26-years-old but I am extremely petite – I’m 4’11” (59 in) tall and I weigh ~92 lb. I have an hourglass figure: a small waist (23″) and I carry my weight in my butt (hips measure 33″). I have spent hours researching brands online, trying on jeans in stores, posting on petite forums, etc and I am constantly frustrated that everything I try on just turns out to be too big. I feel like I’ve hit a dead end. I’ve accepted that finding jeans that fit my inseam is a fools errand so I own a sewing machine and hem the length of all my denim myself. My problem is finding jeans that fit my waist. As I’m sure you know and have experienced, ordering a certain waist size often proves to be arbitrary and varies across brands – A “24” waist could be huge in one brand and small in another….”
When we received this desperate plea for help from our reader, H., we decided that this is not cool. Why, there are jeans in super skinny sizes, long inseams, curvy, and plus sizes. And even though a lot of brands are offering shorter inseams, the proportions never seem to be right.
So we went on a “petite hunt”, checking out tons of reviews, and also talking to a lot of petite lady denim aficionados. And here are the results.
