The Race to the bottom: who are the winners? – An Interactive Panel Discussion at the 3rd edition Of Denimsandjeans India By Industry Leaders.
Denimsandjeans India’s 3rd edition of the most awaited international denim & supply chain show, happening July 17th and 18th at Bangalore, has recently shared the details of its first-panel discussion which has been scheduled for July 18.
According to the press release, the panel discussion will be moderated by Mr. Stefano Aldighieri (ex-creative director of Levis). Senior representatives of denim supply chain companies will be participating in the discussion and will share their views followed by a Q&A session.
Themed “THE RACE TO THE BOTTOM: WHO ARE THE WINNERS?, there will be discussions about the changing patterns of denim business including pricing, sourcing, quality, geographical influences, margins, and sale strategies over the period of time. Another interesting topic will be about the problems which are being faced by the industry and the solutions.
Nowadays, most of the brands launch jeans at a very unreasonable price. However, experience shows that at the end, most of the garments will actually be selling for much less.
Inflation has been rising globally and the prices of most consumer goods have increased in the same proportion. However, when it comes to jeans, their prices have been lowered over the period of time.
One of the objectives of this panel discussion is to identify the root of this problem: Why in the past decade, this industry failed to align with the fundamentals of inflation and how this has affected their businesses so far.
The panel discussion will also focus on the changes which happened during the early 2000’s and 2008’s.
2000 was the year when the premium segment of jeans found its space in the market and therefor it was easy to sell them for $300. But,of course, this wouldn’t hold up and there was a crash in the mid-2008’s, when the recession hit the USA. The post-recession era opened the market for fast fashion and these retailers were selling jeans for as low as $10.
Another interesting panel discussion will be about the impact of e-commerce business affecting the Eco-system of traditional business and the challenges ahead.
