Before you start making mad faces at us, let me just be clear on one thing: We’re NOT talking Britney Spears/ Lindsay Lohan low rise. Like the kind you need to have a bikini wax before you wear them.
We are talking about that kind of low rise that is within our comfort zone. We could also say a lower mid-rise. And definitely not with a skintight waistline, think muffin-tops, but rather with a looser and more relaxed waistband. Remember, a looser waistband is the best “excuse” to show off your new Western style belt, or that Gucci belt you bought seasons ago and which just doesn’t look right when belted right underneath your boobs!
What happens is that those of us with a shorter torso, those high waisted or – even worse – super sky high rises – do not work for us. And plain mid-rise is just so, well, blah.
To sum it up, we are looking at jeans with a maximum of an eight to nine inch rise, be it a boyfriend, skinny, or straight leg style.
For quite a few years, one of my most favorite go-to jeans have been the Citizens of Humanity Emerson slim boyfriend jeans. They are a staple for me because they can be worn more fitted as a tapered straight leg, or looser, as a real boyfriend jean (remember those!). Available in many different washes here.
Low rise rigid denim jeans in a slim straight fit are a good option for those of us who are not too keen on stretch jeans. Also, rigid denim is less likely to cling, so no muffin top danger.

If you are more of a stretch denim lady, then you’re going to love the Emma jeans from DL1961. The Emma jeans have become one of the brand’s bestsellers over the years and are available in an array of cool washes and also in plus sizes.
For vintage-style jeans addicts, the Goldsign Low Slung is a super cool and also comfortable option. Although made of 100% cotton, these jeans are super soft and will feel like your softest stretch denim jean. The style is a cropped straight leg and the jeans are available in four different washes. But you gotta run, they’re already pretty much sold out. Which shows….here you go with the lower rise!

Scroll down for more options – all of them well within the “no bikini wax needed” range and totally do-able. And let us know if you found a pair you love in a comment below, or e-mail us. We always love your feedback!
