So, before we go any deeper into Balenciaga’s pre-fall 2021 collection, let us just point out the one outstanding and clearly visible denim fact: skinny is out and uber-sized is in. Just saying…
And, on a side-note, see the bright green shoes some of the models are wearing (first image below – but wait are these really shoes or rather green paint feet!?).so, just saying again 😉 Read our post about green being the trend color of the moment!
Presented against a backdrop of famous landmarks, the collection was basically all about over- and uber-sized in general. Jeans as well as denim blazers and sweatshirts.
And on another very substantial and important note – sustainability. According to creative director, Demna Gvasalia:
“When I started this collection, I said only show me sustainable fabrics. I don’t want to look at anything else.” So everything here, beginning with the pink hoodie, emblazoned varsity-style with the words GAY Pride and swathed with a matching stole (image above), to the black drama of the puffed-sleeve gown-like silhouette at the end (not shown here), is made from recycled and otherwise certifiably okay materials. Almost wholly, that is, except for outstanding issues such as the the use of glue to stick sneakers together.”
