When we first introduced you to New York based brand, Cotte D’Armes in 2011, we knew that this was a brand to keep on our radar. Their concepts and denim styles were (and still are) totally unique. I’d even go as far as to say, basically independent of fashion trends, but rather – to best describe it – like haute denim couture.
Lots of things happened in the past ten years since the brand first launched, and Clarence Ruth, founder and designer of the brand, began branching out and focusing more on his creative side. Results: he released a fabulous book about colors and started exhibiting in art galleries – but more about this some other time.
Right now, Clarence is back with his beloved denim, and it’s all about non-season based, but rather contemporary, pieces. Not to mention the fact that Cotte D’Armes is focused on sustainability and most of the denim pieces are actually unisex.
Below you can check out the 2021 collection – on women, but Clarence will be following up soon with the same collection featured on male models – stay tuned, coming up soon.
“Inspired by the past, present, and future Cotte D’Armes 2021 draws from the history of western cowboys. The intention was to create unisex pieces curated with familiar military and biker styles.
Cotte D’Armes designer and director, Clarence Ruth, selected materials in collaboration with his company Cmirecycle Club Studio. The idea is to integrate the down cycle program by reconstructing old and used denim into timeless pieces. Categories ranging from tops, bottoms, and outerwear are still unmistakably Cotte D’Armes but with a new purpose.
Sustainability is at the forefront of this collaboration with the intention of functionality, practicality, and reinventive design. Cotte D’Armes NYC have reimagined their production and are now focused on delivering limited edition and exclusive products only. Ruth’s decision to move in this direction is simple: to help minimize waste on our planet and focus on the quality rather than quantity of each garment. Cotte D’Armes firmly believes in sustainable fashion and contributing to global environmental rehabilitation.”
