Remember Y-Project, Glenn Martens? Well here’s some good news: if you are into vanguard fashion, especially when it comes to denim, you now have one of the biggest denim icons, Diesel, and Y-Project’s fashion forward Glenn Martens as their creative director all in one “strike”!
Since taking the reins at Diesel last October, Glenn Martens has been busy building a new vision for the storied fashion house known for its provocative campaigns and innovative use of denim. And in the video above you can see what’s in store for us next spring and summer.
In lieu of a traditional fashion show, Diesel invites you to experience a short film that showcases Glenn Martens’ first expression of his vision for Diesel. Collaborating with artist and director Frank Lebon, the film blurs the lines between reality and a dream. Sound tracked with a unique composition by British musician Leon Vynehall, the audience is invited into the void to experience the hallucinatory vision of the SS22 collection.
The spring/summer ’22 collection includes a heritage component called Diesel Library, the “runway” portion of experimental looks like printed and smocked organza pieces with cracked paint motifs, and the latest drop of their global collection of more commercial pieces. Including, of course, lots of denim – and yes – cleaner denim – find out:
“Denim is a very social material, because it talks to everybody,” he said. “It doesn’t matter who you are, your background, how much money you make, sexuality, religion, you wear denim. So that’s of course a great responsibility because you are talking to everybody. And of course a great moment to have a message coming through. And the message first of all for me is sustainability, of course. Because denim is quite a polluting material. So within 6 months of my arrival, we managed to change the whole supply chain. That means that the treatments are certified and not polluting.” states Martens.
