Over the years Dsquared2 has become our main inspirational go-to brand when it comes to layering. It’s like whenever you think layering one specific piece over another is not doable, Dsquared2’s Dan and Dean Caten prove us wrong again. They are not afraid of mixing patterns, styles, and prints in every imaginable and unimaginable way possible.

The Catens have perfected the maximalist mashup, with layering elevated to an art form. Describing every look of the fall collection would take ages. But here’s one for you (below):

Seriously – a sleeveless plaid almost maxi long shirt worn underneath a colorful printed hip hugging also sleeveless sweater. Add a pair of oversized wide-leg jeans – wait – tucked into Ugg boot-like fur lined booties. Hmm, let’s say, pretty eye-catching at least, right!

Knitwear was one of the collection’s standouts, chunky, enveloping, mostly proposed in striped folksy patterns. It was worn over flowy short apron dresses layered over tartan kilts or cargo pants, or over ultra-washed, extra-fluid denim pants. Blanket coats and ponchos, fake fur coats, and an array of tops, printed dresses of various lengths and unspecified layering pieces were mixed together with creative abandon. It made for a fun, lively outing, a welcome jolt of energy and optimism.

You can shop for the current Dsquared2 collection at Coltorti, LUISAVIAROMA, italist, and at Farfetch.
